President Rawlings Has Received No Invitation To NDC Rally

{sidebar id=12 align=right}The Office of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings has noted with concern a creeping culture of using the name of the former President to publicize events, particularly NDC related even when he has not been invited or confirmed attendance.

We have taken particular note of extensive publicity on the forthcoming rally of the Greater Accra Regional NDC at Mantse Agboena in which the media has been erroneously informed that President and Mrs. Rawlings have been invited to the attend.

This office wishes to inform the general public that it has received no invitation on behalf on President Rawlings. The only communication we have received from the Greater Accra NDC in the past few weeks is a letter dated February 21 and received on February 24 which requests the former President to grant audience to the Regional Secretariat to introduce parliamentary candidates for the 2012 elections. No mention is made of any rally in the said letter.

We wish to state that there are clear procedures for inviting President and Mrs. Rawlings to events. Individuals or organisations are required to send formal invitations in writing or seek audience to present their requests. None of the above has been brought to the attention of this office as far as the rally at Mantse Agboena on March 17 is concerned.

Once an invitation is received President and Mrs. Rawlings reserve the right to accept or turn down the invitation and it is only then, can the organisers choose to publicize their attendance.

Thank you.

Samia Calls For Nkrumaist Unity For 2012

CPP Samia & PNC AyarigaSamia Calls For Nkrumaist Unity For 2012 Posted on February 6, 2012 The call for unity among Nkrumaist parties in Ghana has been rejuvenated by the National Chairperson for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaaba Nkrumah.

Delivering a solidarity message on behalf of the CPP at the national delegates’ congress of the People’s National Convention (PNC) at the Sunyani Polytechnic over the weekend, Samia Nkrumah, the only daughter of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, challenged the new leadership of the PNC to show commitment towards unity talks with the CPP. “We, in the CPP, are waiting for you so that we commence sincere and genuine unity talks,” she said, calling on the PNC to come back to the negotiation table to ensure a unified Nkrumaist front for election 2012.

{sidebar id=10 align=right}According to Samia Nkrumah, their bid to capture power by unseating the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December general elections will become futile if the two Nkrumaist political parties fail to unite.

“The CPP and the PNC share the ideology of Dr Kwame Nkrumah because we have a common destiny to transform Ghana,” she stated.

Samia Nkrumah, whose speech was greeted by intermittent cheers from the delegates said, “We don’t want to field candidates against each other in the constituencies.” She therefore called on her compatriots in the PNC to build together with the CPP “to serve Ghana our beloved country with honesty and exemplary leadership.”

Meanwhile, PNC passed a resolution to commence an alliance process with the CPP at the congress which was under the theme: “A United PNC for Victory in 2012.”

“In the light of the resurgence of our shared legacy in dignifying Ghanaians, mindful of the desires of our general leadership, as well as grassroots calls to speed-up the process of unity and/or alliance with CPP, and urged on by millions of our supporters world-wide, this congress hereby mandates the elected leadership of the party to resume the discussions towards this unity process with the CPP and to present a report of options by April 15, 2012.

“Congress further mandates NEC to assume the power to deliberate and ratify any options considered appropriate to the general interest of both parties,” the resolution said.

Woyome Is A "Determined Thief” – Minority Leader

Alfred Agbesi WoyomeThe Minority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-

Bonsu, has described beleaguered NDC financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, as a “determined thief” who pooled resources with former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Betty Mould-Iddrisu to defraud the state of a colossal amount of money.

Speaking on Oman FM, the Minority Leader said irrespective of the fact that it was through a default judgment procured by Mr Woyome that the NDC guru came by the monies, it was a well thought-out and near perfect executed plan with the aid of the former A-G and other officials.

{sidebar id=10 align=right}“…it was through a default judgment passed by the court, which excluded a defense from the state attorney at the time…The Attorney-General never went to court to put out a defense for the nation, there were no explanations from the department to attest that the nation was against the payment and this facilitated the ruling in favour of Mr. Woyome,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Woyome was last Friday arrested by the police. He has been in custody at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters since his arrest for roles he played in the payment of the controversial GHS58 million judgment debt.

The Police CID have also arrested Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, for questioning in the ongoing Alfred Woyome judgment debt scandal. Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh is one of many officials indicted by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office’s interim report following a probe of their roles in the payment of some GHS51 million to Woyome.

He is also being held at the Police Headquarters in Accra. Mrs. Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh, wife of the Chief State Attorney, is reported to have been paid an amount of GHS400,000 on June 16, 2011 by Alfred Woyome.

In a related development, Government has served notice that the arrest and detention of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome by the police is only the tip of the iceberg and the beginning of a series of actions Ghanaians must be looking to in connection with the judgment debt payment scandal.
