"I will keep the NDC tree alive - Abodakpi launches bid for NDC chairmanship
A former Minister of Trade and Industries, Mr Daniel Abodakpi, has announced his intention to vie for the position of National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with a declaration to work to keep all parts of the NDC tree alive and rooted firmly into the political future of the country.
Launching his bid at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, Mr Abodakpi said his mission was to reconnect the NDC party to its original core values and to its mass base.
In his view, there was some level of anger and despondency among the footsoldiers and cadres of the party, because they had been left out in the decision making process at the grass-roots level.
To reverse this trend, Mr Abodakpi said his vision was to provide a new dynamic leadership around which the collective energies of the party, including the united cadres group, would revolve.
Reasons to contest
Mr Abodakpi said his reasons to contest was not a personal one but a decision born out of an extensive and broad consultations across the spectrum of the party.
‘’It is a call for the NDC to have a new lease of life and it has become a very urgent one and the call cannot be ignored”, he declared.
He explained that having played a founding role in the party and also worked and sacrificed alongside many other comrades to build the party, he would see it a remiss on his part to ignore the call by the rank and file of the party to him to be the party’s chairman.
Mr Abodakpi is the first to publicly declare his intention to contest the chairmanship position once the go-ahead has been given by the National Executive Committee of the party.
The National Executive, at a meeting last week, fixed October 26 and 27, this year for the national congress of the party.
Apart from Mr Abodakpi, media reports have come out with names of people expressing their interest in the chairmanship race. They include Mr Kofi Portuphy, National Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO); Mr Ofosu Ampofo a former Local Government Minister; and the incumbent, Dr Kwabena Agyei.
Former Minister of Justice,Mrs Betty Mould Iddrissu, was reportedly nursing the ambition to contest in the chairmanship race. But she has, however, come out publicly to debunk the rumour.

Paul Afoko Is A “Trotro” Bus Being Driven By Kufuor And Mpiani – NPP Northern Regional Chair
Northern Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has hit hard at the National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko, accusing him of masterminding the suit filed against the party forcing the National Council (NC) to call off a crucial meeting geared towards the selection of a Presidential candidate.
A senior member of the party, Mr. David Hoezame, on June 17, 2014, filed the suit challenging the status of the party’s National Council as presently constituted. Joined to the suit is the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko.
{sidebar id=10 align=right}The plaintiff has since filed a motion for interim injunction praying the court to restrain the defendants from taking any further action on behalf of the party until the final determination of the suit.
Hearing of the motion on notice for interim injunction will be heard on July 3, 2014.
The motion for interim injunction is specifically praying the Accra High Court to restrain the NPP from going ahead to conduct elections for the selection of a presidential candidate until the final determination of the suit.
Reacting to the issue on Okay Fm’s Saturday Edition of “Adeakye Abea” Morning Show, Bugri Naabu posited that the cancellation of the meeting was a deliberate ploy orchestrated by the National Chairman because he considers the present Council Members as not properly constituted.
“It is a deliberate attempt to disorganize NPP, the party we have toiled and suffered for. But we are not going to accept that…..the court case is orchestrated by Paul Afoko to delay the Council mandate to fix date for the congress. It won’t auger well because Ghanaians won’t forgive us if we don’t work hard to regain power from the NDC. Ghanaians will curse NPP and we will suffer for it but we are not ready for that…..the man who has taken the party to court is not known to me…all I know is that he supported Paul Afoko during his campaign to be the party’s National Chair,” he alleged.
The Northern Regional NPP Chair further alleged that Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong have an agenda to be leaders and have mapped out a strategy to make the NPP stay in opposition till the 2020 elections.
“ We are hearing speculations that the National Chairman and the General Secretary have an agenda called “Agenda 2020”, meaning they don’t want NPP to come to power until 2020 elections and the reason behind the agenda is best known to them……they found ways and means to come to power and kill the party…..You see that Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong are pursuing Alan Kyerematen’s agenda in the party; we want to meet the Chairman on June 25, 2014 and if he fails to meet us, we will advise ourselves….all delegates are awake. I am ashamed of Paul Afoko as a Northerner that we thought had come to change the perception that NPP is an Akan party.
He has turned himself into a “trotro” bus driven by some people in the party to any direction of their choice….Paul Afoko is against Northerners because Bawumia being young and a Running Mate of Nana Addo is what he wants to prevent since he is afraid he (Bawumia) will succeed Nana after his term in office…….we heard Kufuor and Kwadwo Mpiani are behind all this, controlling Paul Afoko. He simply wants to collapse the party and so Northerners should rise up and not allow him to mudsling us,” he stated.

Adentan Gets MCE At Last
THE GENERAL atmosphere at the Adentan municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region on thursday was one of great excitement after the assembly members had voted massively to endorse the President’s nominee, Benjamin Baroson Angenu, as the new municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
He polled 17 votes, representing 94% of total votes cast by the 18-member assembly.
Benjamin Baroson Angenu, 42, is a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies (UPS), Madina, and married with three sons.
The Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly, Gladys Naadu Gilead Tetteh, before opening proceedings for the day’s business, read a letter addressed to the assembly dated June 18, 2014 with reference number 1716/67/01/vol.2 and signed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Laryea Affotey Agbo.
The letter announced the revocation of the appointment of four government nominees serving in the assembly.
The four were, Dr. Catherine Denyinu, Dr. Desmond Aryee-Boi, Mac Charles Tamakloe and Hajia Mahama.
A second letter also announced the appointment of four others to replace the dismissed members.
The new appointees who were sworn in by Jojo Amoah Hagan, a Magistrate at Madina, were Rita Afua Dela Nyameto, Hajia Fatima Mashud Salifu, Francis Akorlor and Raphael Lokko.
Nii Laryea Affotey Agbo, in a speech, said it was very important for government to revoke the appointment of the four appointees in view of the fact that their actions sought to undermine the progress of good governance in the assembly.
The Regional Minister, who is also the MP for Kpone Katamanso, advised the incoming MCE to live up to the expectation of the people.
Nii Affotey Agbo further reminded the MCE to ignore any interference by questionable characters, show fair play and ensure that decisions taken would help to improve the lives of the people.
The Presiding Member, Gladys Naadu Tetteh, described the confirmation of the MCE as a plus for democracy.
The Member of Parliament for Adentan, Nii Ashie Moore, who was full of praise to God, said he believed “the business of the day was a divine visitation to deliver the municipality from the hands of oppressors.”
The assembly had rejected two earlier nominees, including the immediate past MCE, Nubly Kakara VanLare and Gifty Emefa Sika Nartey.

NPP Regional Chairmen To Organise Regional Delegates’ Conference To Elect National Council Reps
{sidebar id=10 align=right}The ten regional chairmen of the New Patriotic Party have taken note of the writ filed in court challenging the composition of the National Council, on the basis that the regional representatives were not elected as prescribed by the Constitution of the NPP.
It should be noted that since the formation of the NPP in 1992, National Council representatives from the regions have always been appointed after due consultation and this convention has become established in the party.
This notwithstanding, it is apparent that the writ filed in court challenging the composition of the National Council is a calculated attempt to disrupt the forward march of the NPP to the Jubilee House in 2016.
To avoid this and to ensure peace in the party, the ten regional chairmen have decided to convene a regional delegates’ conference for each region to elect their representatives to the National Council. The elections will take place on the 29th of June 2014 across the country.

Upper West Regional NPP Chairman

Alan Kyeremanten promises to build a stronger NPP
Twice-defeated presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyeremanten, has promised to build a stronger political party capable of winning elections again.
The former trade and industry minister picked his nomination forms on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters.
This signals his formal declaration to contest the flagbearership slot of his party for the third time.
Mr. Kyeremanten told his party executives in Accra after picking his nomination forms that he can turn the fortunes of the party around significantly if delegates elect him to lead the party into the 2016 general elections.
He said, "I have had the privilege and honour to serve our great party...if it's God's will that I become the next flagbearer, I will work with you to build a strong, united, stable and financially viable and stable party".
Mr. Kyeremanten joins six others hoping to be given the nod as flagbearer of the NPP.
The primaries will take place on December 6.
