Ayariga Should Endorse Prez Mahama – Kwabena Agyepong

{sidebar id=10 align=right}A senior member of the New Patriotic Party has challenged the presidential candidate of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Hassan Ayariga, to be bold and endorse the candidature of President John Dramani Mahama if he so wishes instead of saying one thing and acting differently.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong believes Mr Ayariga’s actions and words over the period have portrayed a certain liking for the NDC, and it would do him a world of good to publicly declare his support for the NDC presidential candidate.

Mr Agyepong was speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show a day after the third and final Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA)-organised Presidential Debates for the flagbearers of parties with representation in Parliament.

Hassan Ayariga, perhaps to show he had really been ill which led to his initial decision to withdraw from the debate, was heard and seen coughing on a number of occasions. Interestingly, his coughing bouts seemed to occur most often when the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo was speaking, and not when he (Ayariga) or the two others were speaking.

Analysing the performance of the four leaders, Kwabena Agyepong wondered if Hassan Ayariga was sent by his handlers, probably in the NDC, to disrupt and interrupt the flow and thought processes of the NPP candidate. He also wondered why somebody seeking the presidency would constantly attack a fellow aspirant instead of the incumbent President.

‘Was he (Hassan Ayariga) tasked to disrupt Akufo-Addo, especially with his cough? Even the viewer was irritated. But interestingly he only coughed when Akufo-Addo was speaking. He never coughed when he was speaking, or when anybody else was speaking.

‘If he wants to endorse Mahama he should be bold and say it. His actions show he knows he is not going to win. If he wants to be the hatchet man for NDC and John Mahama that’s fine, but he shouldn’t do it while going about as PNC flagbearer.’

Mr Agyepong recalled that until his demise on July 24, 2012 Hassan Ayariga had very good relations with the late President Mills, once even going to meet him at the airport when he returned from one of his foreign trips. As well, Mr Agyepong claimed Mr Ayariga was with President Mahama at the VIP area at the Tamale Airport when he and other NPP leaders accompanied the mortal remains of the late Aliu Mahama to its final resting place, and even enjoyed the President’s security detail.

These actions and more indicate Mr Ayariga’s actual leanings, and it would therefore be in his own interest to publicly declare his stance and put to rest speculation, even within his party, that he was an NDC person in disguise, Mr Agyepong said.

Also commenting, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, commended Nana Akufo-Addo for not rising to the digs and subtle taunts of Mr Ayariga in the course of the debate, saying he had displayed 'maturity,' the same trait exhibited by the late Prof Mills. 'It was as if Ayariga wasn’t even in the room.'

The Presidency Is Only One Term

The Presidency Is Only One Term

{sidebar id=10 align=right}On a night distinguished which saw enormous restraint by the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the face of Hassan Ayariga's infamous cough, H.E President Mahama stated that the Constitution of Ghana gives every President two terms.

That is not the case.

Article 66 makes it clear that a president holds office for a four year term but can serve a second term subject to re-election.

It is because it is not automatic but subject to elections that expensive elections are held every four years to let the people decide.

The decision, this year, will focus on the generational change through education agenda of the NPP as clearly stated by Nana Akufo-Addo, compared to the visionless, corruption laden four years witnessed under the NDC.

Given another chance to come clean on corruption, the President said the deliberate conspiracy to steal money through fraudulent settlement and judgment debts was a mere slip and blamed the NPP for abrogating contracts. Which contracts? Africa Automobile Limited’s Gallopers, Isofoton, Waterville or Woyome?

Ghanaians will reject corruption as evidenced by the concurrent polling on the night which put Nana ahead in the voters’ affection for the clarity and strength of his message.

Victory for NDC is imminent - Abodakpi

{sidebar id=10 align=right}Dan Abodakpi, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, has predicted victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the impending elections.

However, he said there is the need for youthful NDC supporters to hit the ground especially, into the towns, villages and hamlets, to put the records straight, to ensure that victory was massive.

Mr Abodakpi was speaking a durbar at Adidome over the weekend to formally launch Mr Joe Gidisu’s fourth bid as Member of Parliament (MP) for Central-Tongu.

He said stories about lack of development in the area was propaganda by opposing parties to dampen support for the NDC in the area.

Mr Abodakpi said funds have been released for the completion of electrification projects in the area.

Mr Gidisu, who is also Minister of Roads and Highways, could not be present at his campaign launch because he was said to be on the campaign trail of President Mahama.

Mr Henry Ametefe, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, said it could be suicidal for the people of the area, if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the elections as it would superintend the rollback of all developments there.

Mrs Dzifa Attivor, Deputy Minister of Transport, reminded the scores of supporters who trooped the durbar grounds despite a heavy downpour that Mr Gidisu had done a lot for the development of the area.

Alhaji Bubey Dzinadu, North-Tongu District Chief Executive, said the development of the area was delayed by Dr Abrefa Busia’s Progressive Party (PP) government, when it refused to grant the area a district.

He said the creation of more districts in the Tongu area indicate that the NDC would speed up development of the area faster than any other government.

Mr Joe Kwashi Gidisu, was first elected MP for North-Tongu in 2000 and when the boundaries were redrawn in 2004, he again stood election and won as MP for Central-Tongu and kept hold of the seat again in 2008.

Gomoa Potsin Ward NDC Chairman Defects To NPP

{sidebar id=10 align=right}Mr James Ebo Eninful, Gomoa Potsin ward Chairman of the Gomoa East branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his defection to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Eninful told a press conference that his defection to NPP was as a result of “bad administration of the national economy by the NDC government since it assumed office”. Mr Eninful said one of the reasons for his defection was the missing of a huge sum of money from Gomoa East District Assembly which the authorities had kept mute over.

According to him the MP and the District Assembly had not performed their obligations to improve living conditions of the people.

Mr Eninful said the performance of the government had not been encouraging in the areas of education, health, roads, agric sector, job creation and proper management of the economy. He said the electioneering campaign promises made by the NDC to the people in Gomoa East have not been fulfilled and he could not continue to be a leading member of the NDC whilst the electorate continuing to complain about the deficiencies in the administration of the NDC.

According to Mr Eninful the NPP’s free Senior High School educational policy, free health insurance for Children less than 5 to 18 years and others convinced him and his family to join the NPP. He said the Gomoa East District benefited from Millennium Challenge Account compact which led to the tarring of roads in some farming and fishing communities and other developmental projects were executed during NPP regime.

Mr Eninful mentioned some of tarred roads as those in Gomoa Afransi-Akwamu, Budumbrum-Apra-Ofankor, Fetteh Kakraba-Nkwantanum, Adabra, Eduafokwaa and Gomoa Dasum-Agona Kwanyako.

NPP To Win By 52%- Research International

NPP To Win By 52%- Research International

{sidebar id=10 align=right}The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will sweep approximately 52 per cent of the total votes in the December 7 presidential polls, while its rival, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will get 46.9 per cent of the votes, a local research group, Marketing Social Research International (MSRI), has said.

The findings show that the other smaller parties would barely make one per cent of the collective votes.

The research was conducted between September and October 2012 across all the 230 constituencies in Ghana.

MSRI is an offshoot of the global research firm, Research International (RI), an affiliate of WPP Research, the world’s largest communications service group. WPP is a global research conglomerate with over 162, 000 staff working in 3,000 offices across 110 countries.

The company is likened with communications firm such as Fitch, the global rating organization, Kander, an internationally acclaimed research group and Ogilvy South Africa, a communications group with footprints across Africa.

The contents of the findings, available to Daily Guide, show RI using a sufficiently large sample size of 4,600 people across different demographics in the country.

According to the poll, the research survey, which specifically targeted the two biggest parties, NPP and NDC, had a confidence level of 98 per cent with a minimal margin of error of 1.8 per cent-plus or minus in the survey, the NPP is set to sweep Christian votes with 56 per cent against the NDC’s 40 per cent.

The NDC’s votes would mostly come from Ghana’s Islamic and traditional religions. The NDC is set to win about 63 per cent of Muslim votes against the NPP’s 39 per cent. The same trend is expected to be repeated among voters in the traditional religion where the NDC would sweep over 60 per cent of the votes.

Interestingly, age has a major role to play in determining the direction of votes in the forthcoming elections.

The survey shows that older voters of between 50 to 100 years are likely going to be the best bet for the NDC at an average of 53 per cent of total votes, while the more populous youthful voting segment of between 18 years and 49 years would be rooting for the NPP with a lead of about 55 per cent over its rival.

The position is vastly different from the attempt of the NDC to portray its candidates as a youthful person born after Ghana’s March 6, 1957 independence.
