Give NDC another term, even Afari Gyan agrees – Akrosu chief declares

25 Nov 2012

{sidebar id=10 align=right}The chief of Akim Akrosu in the Eastern Region Nana Kwabena Ofori has stated that President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) deserve one more term to complete what he believed was the developmental projects implemented across the country.

Nana Ofori said the NDC had done enough to warrant a second term after they successfully completed the electrification project in the area.

According to him, the NPP neglected them even though they had NPP ministers from the area.

Speaking in his palace to welcome the President who is on a campaign tour of the region, Nana Kwabena Ofori debunked assertions that the NPP brought electricity to the area demanding that he should be shown any proof of such claims. He said he was ready to challenge the NPP of any claim to any development in the area.

He also questioned why the NPP had fixed candidates in the newly created constituencies after they opposed the law backing their formation.

He declared that Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan had already affirmed President Mahama as the winner of the upcoming general elections and thus urged his people to vote massively for President Mahama.

President Mahama on his part expressed his delight at the acknowledgements of the chief and promised to do more to change the fortunes of the people if the party wins the December elections.

Don’t exchange children’s future with gifts – Bawumia

25 Nov 2012

{sidebar id=10 align=right}Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2012 NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, has appealed to the people of Ghana to remain resolute in their determination to secure a better future for their children and avoid being swayed by the numerous gifts being doled out by the ruling party for vote buying purposes.

Dr. Bawumia said this when he paid a call on the acting Navro Pio, Wekem Arthur Balinia Adda at his palace in Navrongo as part of a tour of the Navrongo Central constituency on Saturday.

The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, who thanked Navro Pio Adda for the warm welcome accorded him and his team said “Navro pio and elders, we are here to ask for your blessings as we approach December 7th which is barely two weeks away when we will decide the destiny of this country. Hopefully, the people of Ghana would vote for a party that would provide Free Secondary School education for all of our children. This would be of great benefit to all of our families. Every family in Navrongo and countrywide would be beneficiaries of this policy.

It is something I hope we should hold dearly. Let us not exchange the future of our children with gifts of today that the NDC is sharing in attempt to change our minds. Those gifts would be consumed but the education of our children would last forever and they would pass the benefits from generation to generation.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who spent Saturday campaigning also in the Zebilla constituency, informed Navro Pio Adda, that the NPP had great plans for the people of Navrongo, the Upper East Region and the nation at large and asked the people of Navrongo to massively endorse Nana Akufo-Addo and the sitting Member of Parliament, Joseph Kofi Adda come December 7th.

The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate stated that aside providing free secondary school education, the NPP, in line with its decision to prioritize education once elected, had also decided to turn three (3) of the campuses of the University of Development Studies (UDS) into fully fledged and equipped public universities. He informed the Navro Pio that these campuses would include the Navrongo Campus of the University and said that the NPP would invest the necessary resources to build on the current facilities at the campus to ensure that the people of the Upper East region have a befitting public university.

Dr. Bawumia also used the opportunity to pay glowing tribute to the memory of the late former Vice-President of the Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama who was close friends with Navro Pio Adda. He noted that H.E. Aliu Mahama was a good man who cherished the ch9ieftancy institution and did everything possible to support and strengthen the institution and pledged that when elected, he would continue in that stead.

The acting Navro Pio, Wekem Arthur Balinia Adda on his part thanked Dr. Bawumia for the respect he had shown him and for coming to his palace to inform him of the plans of the NPP. He assured Dr. Bawumia and the NPP of his blessings and wished the NPP success in the December polls.

3000 People In 8 Polling Stations in U/E Can't Vote On Dec 7

24 Nov 2012

{sidebar id=10 align=right}Eight out of the 99 polling stations in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region, comprising 3000 people would not be able to vote in the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Mr Pawiah Ofori, Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday said the Atosale, Azanze , Akurugu Daboo and Abinpingo polling stations who refused to take part in the Biometric Voter registration exercise would not be able to vote.

Mr Ofori was responding to questions by Political youth activists at a workshop organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Navrongo on the theme, “Empowering the youth to stand up for Ghana for a peaceful election 2012”.

He stated that other areas that would not be able to vote were the Doba and Gayingo areas that also constituted four polling stations.

Some party youth representatives at the workshop also voiced their displeasure about some polling stations that were still draped in party colors even though election day was around the corner.

The EC official gave the assurance that those areas would be checked and appropriate actions taken to correct the situation.

ASP Abdul- Latif Nbonwura, Navrongo Municipal Police Commander, said peace was essential at this time as Ghanaians prepare for the polls.

The Police Commander, speaking on the topic, “Public order act and elections: Prospects and challenges", assured participants that plans were in place to provide all polling stations and flash points adequate security in the 198 polling stations that included Kassena-Nankana West.

He urged all to exercise tolerance and to direct their problems to the appropriate quarters for redress rather than take advantage of any problem to create trouble.

He advised all aspirants to consider each other as brothers and to accept the results of the polls when they are announced.

Madam Mary Ankrah, head of Programmes ,NCCE, tasked all political parties whose representatives would be monitoring the polls to select those who had numeracy skills to supervise the counting of ballot papers so that they would all accept in good faith the results.

She said some parties had the tendency of presenting “macho men” whose presence at polling stations could intimidate the electorate.

Oil money will cater for free SHS and Health - Akufo Addo

25 Nov 2012

{sidebar id=10 align=right}Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, on Wednesday night told students and lecturers of Takoradi Polytechnic that his government will spend a chunk of Ghana’s oil revenue on Education and Health.

He said the best way Ghana can make a brighter future for the next generation is to use part of the oil money to provide free Basic Education to the young ones, up to Senior High School. He was speaking during a visit to the Polytechnic.

The students of Takoradi Polytechnic, who composed several songs to welcome the NPP Presidential candidate, sang and cheered as Nana Akufo Addo made his statements. The venue of the event, the auditorium, which was fully packed, was built by the NPP while in office.

Some speakers took time to make a case for voting the NPP back into power, pointing to some works done by the party in its 8 years in office, the biggest among them, Ghana’s oil lying under the belly of the sea, off the coasts of Takoradi.

Nana Akufo Addo reiterated his plan for Education and Health, the two key sectors he would spend most of the oil money on, as he spelt out at the IEA debate last Wednesday. He believes this is the best legacy Ghana can leave for the next generation, when the oil and gas run out.

“We have to learn from the history of other countries. We don’t have to make the same mistakes as other people have done”, he said, referring to the oil curse.

He blamed the NDC government for wasting Ghana’s wealth in the payment of “dubious judgement debts” most of which he said were paid to NDC cronies.

He asked the students to be vigilant on the Election Day to ensure that change comes on December 7.
