Chief Of Staff Punched
The outspoken and controversial National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for
Lower Manya in the Eastern region, Michael Teye Nyaunu, who is a known critic of his own government, has lashed out at Chief of Staff Henry Newman Martey for creating a wedge between President Atta Mills and grassroots supporters of the party.
He said this has contributed further to the increasing disenchantment within the rank and file of the party. Mr Teye Nyaunu, who accompanied Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the founder of the party on her two-day official campaign in the Eastern region as her campaign manager, said Mr Martey was not a member of the party and yet he had been appointed the Chief of Staff and therefore making it difficult for true members of the party to have access to the presidency.
He made these comments on Wednesday at the Eastern regional party headquarters when he interacted with some party people who were there to meet Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. “I have personally tried on three occasions to see the President but Mr Martey would not let me see the President because he did not know me,” he indicated.
According to him, on the fourth occasion, he asked Mr Martey why he had been preventing him from seeing the President but Mr Martey could only say that the President had been busy and that he (Martey) did not know him (Teye Nyaunu).
“I said to him that it was not surprising that he did not know me because he is not a member of the party. He did not suffer with us in the trenches but had had the appointment on silver platter,” he said.
He explained that it was after he had put Martey in his ‘right position’ that he eventually allowed him to see the President.
“When I went to the president, I told him about my ordeal at the hands of Mr Martey and the President was very sorry over the incident.”He said the President later queried Mr Martey on that, after which he (Martey) profusely apologised to him.
According to him, the President then instructed Mr Martey to give him free access anytime he (Nyaunu) wanted to see him.He said Martey, after being queried by the President, called him to his office and gave him some souvenirs which he distributed to party people in his constituency.
He said he did not criticise just for criticism sake but because real party people who toiled to build and sustain the party had been completely neglected by the current administration.
He said the party had now seen the sense in his criticisms and was listening to the plights of its foot-soldiers.Mr Nyaunu, who boasted of being a real cadre of the party, said because he was part of the people who started the NDC, he did not fear anybody in the party, stressing that even in 1996 when the party gave the order that cadres should not contest for the party’s parliamentary primary, he contested and won.
In a related development, Michael Teye-Nyaunu has condemned President Mills for declaring himself the winner of the upcoming flagbearership contest of party. With less than 15 days to go for the flagbearership contest, President Mills, at a meeting in Kumasi with Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chiefs Executives, said he had already won the contest and urged them not to worry.
Teye-Nyaunu, in an interview with Citi News, described the President’s comment as premature and unfortunate. He reiterated his earlier claim that President Mills was being misled by those around him as well as his supporters and advised him to brace himself for a drubbing in the Sunyani contest.
“I wonder how he (Mills) could say that (he had already won). You see, this is why I say that the people around him are not telling the man the truth. He is talking based on the report that they brought to him and I pity him because nobody goes into a fight thinking he is going to lose but in this case, he has already lost and for him to come out with that statement, it is premature. Because the responses we are receiving do not tell us that he has won or it is a done deal.
“They (Mills campaign team) have done enough by influencing delegates with money and motorbikes and adopting tactics that are unfair but all these things notwithstanding, Nana Konadu is going to win and I think that it is premature for him to declare that he has won.”
Teye-Nyaunu said the response from the delegates in the Eastern region indicated President Mills would be given a serious run for his money.

B\A NDC Regional Executives Deny Nana Konadu’s Allegation
The Brong-Ahafo (B\A) Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have refuted a statement made by Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former first lady, that the executives kept some delegates indoors during her campaign tour of the Region recently.
A statement signed by Mr Opoku Atuahene, NDC Regional chairman, copied to Ghana News Agency, said it is not true that the executives kept the delegates indoors to prevent them from meeting Nana Konadu, aspiring NDC flagbearer.
It said “The regional executives are challenging Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to withdraw her statement because she and her team were received as a former First Lady and one of the contestants for the flagbearer of the great party, NDC”.
The statement challenged Nana Konadu to mention areas where such bad behaviour occurred and said that delegates across the Region gave Nana Konadu the necessary respect and recognition.
It said: “ The entire regional executives consider this allegation by Nana Konadu against NDC Brong Ahafo Regional executives untrue”.
The statement advised all delegates and non-delegates of NDC July congress to be disciplined before, during and after the congress.

Dr Delle picks forms for CPP Chairmanship
Professor Edmund Delle, Former National Chairman of Convention People's Party (CPP), on Friday re-affirmed his intension to contest for the Chairmanship
position again when he picked nomination forms at the Party headquarters in Accra. Mr Kojo Armah, Member of the CPP Congress Committee, handed over the forms to Prof Delle and urged all aspirants to adhere to the principles and guidelines of the party.
The party opened for nominations for the various positions from Monday, June 20 and is expected to close on Friday, June 24. Aspirants for the National Chairman's slot are expected to pay GH¢10,000 as nomination fees, while those contesting for National Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and National Treasurer's position would pay GH¢7,500.
The party would hold its two-day National Delegates Congress at Takoradi in the Western Region from July 23 to 24, to elect national officers to steer the affairs of the party. It would be attended by delegates from all the 230 constituencies nationwide. It would organise another congress in Tamale on September 30, to elect a flag bearer.
Prof. Delle arrived in the company of some members of his campaign team amidst singing and drumming. In a document dubbed 93The ORS Blueprint" Prof. Delle outlined his vision for a re-branded CPP that would be well energised and poised to re-capture its past political glory. He said ORS was the acronym for Overhauling, Replenishing and Success which sought to redeem the party's dwindling electoral fortunes and reposition itself as a formidable political force in the country.
Prof. Delle said the party needed to undergo overhauling because since the advent of the Fourth Republic, the CPP had been on the fringes of the country's political system and currently had only one parliamentary seat in Jomoro.
He explained that the overhauling would involve reactivation of the party's structures from the ward to the National Executive level to ensure greater impact in Election 2012.
Prof. Delle noted that the party needed rejuvenation and innovation to shore up its fortunes in Election 2012 which required unity, consensus building and tenacity of purpose.
He explained that the overhauling and replenishing of the CPP would set the party in motion for success in Election 2012 and beyond. "The CPP stands at the crossroads to move backward into political disintegration or set a democratic standard of coming out of the congress more united with both winners and losers jubilating together," he said.
Prof. Delle said there was the need to replenish the party's human resource base through capacity building of its leaders as well as identifiable groups, adding 93the exercise requires 93all hands on deck" to enable the party to make good use of the skills and resources of its members."
He said there was the need to create a special intra-party dialogue platform for all CPP flag bearer aspirants before and after the congress to reduce any animosity among them.
Mr Francis Opai Tetteh, a Member of the CPP, also picked the nomination forms to contest for the party's National Youth Organiser, and hoped to bring on board strategies that would change the fortunes of the party by engaging the youth.
He said he would mobilise the youth as polling station ambassadors responsible for every activity at the polling station and raise funds to re-ignite the party. Ms Christina Samia Yaba Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Jomoro, has also picked up forms to contest the position of National Chairmanship of the Party.

'NDC will handover power, even if it loses by ten votes'
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board and a member of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC), Kwadwo Twum Boafo has assured Ghanaians that the ruling party will handover peacefully to any party if its loses the 2012 general elections by just ten votes.
{sidebar id=10 align=right}Kwadwo Twum Boafo who was reacting to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticism of the Heroes Fund said the NDC has the plight of party members who are victims of electoral violence at heart, and would do anything to make their lives worth living.
The opposition NPP have raised a 'red flag' on the Heroes Fund established by the NDC stating that, it is a means of legalizing and honoring people who engage in violent activities for the party.
The NPP also said the name of the fund is inappropriate for its objectives.
The NDC says the Heroes Fund, registered as a non-governmental organization, is to cater for the needs of victims injured and the families of those who lost their lives while working in the interest of the NDC.
Mr Kwadwo Twum Boafo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme stressed that the NDC would prefer to be in opposition for a peaceful Ghana than to be in power to govern over a chaotic country.
While rubbishing NPP’s claims, the Free Zones Board CEO observed that, the ruling party led by ‘asondwe hene’ President Mills will never allow what happen in Cote d’Ivoire or Kenya to happen in Ghana.
Mr. Twum Boafo noted that the Heroes Fund is not to motivate people to engage in violence as it is being alleged by the NPP, but to honor people who in the line of duty for the party meant their misfortunes.
He recounted one Gadiel Acquah who lost his left leg in a motor bike accident in the 2004 elections while working for President J.E.A. Mills.
According to him, people like Gadiel and others in similar situation are those considered as heroes because they devoted their lives to the party.
Mr. Twum Boafo counseled the NPP to appreciate the objective of the ‘Heroes Fund’ and emulate what NDC has done rather than criticizing it.
