Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa"Africa Should Rather Mourn AU Day"

A leading Member of the Convention People’s Party Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa has asked African Leaders to review their leadership styles as the Continent celebrates African Union Day.

Friday May 25 is the 49th Anniversary of the AU which is being celebrated under the themed “Boosting Intra-Africa Trade through Entrepreneurship”.

The day has been declared a holiday in Ghana and many other African Countries. In an interview with Citi News, Professor Akosa said he is surprised, Africans choose to celebrate the day instead of bemoaning the state of affairs on the continent many years after the formation of the Union.

He said “as far as I’m concerned all of them need to go back and read Osagyefo’s speech in 1953 and 1955 that all because its so prophetic that everything the man said in both speeches and Africa is the worst for it.

“A president of a country that goes begging even for 1 million dollars is not a country worth being a part of, and that is Africa’s story. If celebrating a day is for us to begin to seriously discuss African unity then maybe I can understand.

“What worries me is that even in our own countries we happen to be at the bottom of the pile. Foreigners come into our country and they enjoy the good things in the country and we Ghanaians don’t seem to enjoy the good things, and its so in every African country.

“If you go into foreign countries, the blacks are at the bottom of the pile so when are we going to sit down and think that it is only by coming together and harnessing the potential of the billion people in this African continent that we would get the voice, the recognition and hopefully we can exploit our God given resources to the benefit of the people of Africa?”

Professor Akosa called for a serious reflection by all Africans on this day.
