Addressing the media in Accra on Monday, the Chairman of the committee, Kofi Totobi Quakyi said the amount also includes the cost of casket, although he failed to mention its exact amount.

Mr. Quakyi said the State "actually contributed about GhC 1.4 m to the funeral" because "apart from food items and drinks, total monetary donations amount to GhC 2.2 million."

He said the GhC 3.6 m covers, “hospitality for Heads of State and foreign delegations, printing of book of tribute, order of service and pictorial book on the former President, site preparation, and painting.”

He also mentioned that the expenses covered cost of repairs at the Independence Square and the State House, the Independence Arch, construction of special dais at the Independence Square, hiring of chairs and construction of canopies and feeding, honorarium to performing artiste, floral and funeral services including cost of casket.

“The detailed income and expenditure account will be subjected to audit as is required under the country’s financial regulation,” Mr. Quakyi said.

He denied reports making rounds that the funeral cost GhC 30 million.

President Mills died on July 24 at the 37 Military Hospital after being taken ill and was buried on August 10 at the newly developed Asomdwe (Peace) Park in between the Castle Drive and the Marine Drive in Accra.

His funeral was graced by several government officials from the West African sub-region and other top ranking officials across the world including US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton.
