The Chief of Aburi in the Eastern region, Otubour Djan Kwesi II has appealed to the general public not to misconstrue his proffered support for President John Mahama to mean a declaration of his support for the ruling NDC in the upcoming December polls.

Delivering a speech during the “thank you tour” of President John Mahama on Wednesday in Aburi, Otubour Djan Kwesi II assured President Mahama of his support as the nation goes into the December polls.
Some critics including the Member of Parliament for Aburi-Nsawam hence hit hard at the Chief for his comments saying it suggests partisanship.
But speaking to Citi News Otubour Djan Kwesi II refuted the claims that he was being partisan in his address. He explained that the youth of Aburi would however not be lured into voting for the NDC based on his comments. “Traditionally, my people listen to their rulers but talking about democracy, each one has his own way of playing his cards. I can tell people to vote for this man but when they get to the polling booths, they may decide otherwise.
"But I, the Chief of Aburi believe we should demonstrate some level of democracy within the nation. So when a President is appointed, we need to support him,” he explained.
Meanwhile a Member of Parliament for the Aburi-Nsawam Constituency, O. B. Amoah said the NPP is unperturbed by the comments of the Chief since Aburi has always been the party’s strong hold.
He claimed that “the Chief of Aburi is a personal friend to President John Mahama so obviously, he is endorsing his friend. If that is how he wants to do it, I don’t think I should be too worried. What I need to do is to send a message and see who can better run Ghana.”
According to him, traditional Chiefs normally pledge supports to sitting Presidents “but I think he went beyond by saying that he will give him all the support.”
Mr. Amoah however expressed worry over a promise given by President Mahama to “to do the Aburi-Nsawam road three months to the elections.
"That is very unfortunate because it is not in this year’s budget, no loan has been acquired for it and I can say on authority that the President cannot do the road before the elections.”
