Sir John’s Incarceration Could Spark “Uncontrollable And Inevitable Violence”?

If there is any intention by the Supreme Court to incarcerate Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, then for the sake of peace, the initial plan should be scrapped and replaced with ‘plan b’.
Chairman of the Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie believes the those in the upper echelons can have a say when it comes to taking decisions but fears it could hit a snag if the grassroots are to have their way.
According to him, though the court is doing well, the justices should bear in mind that they can’t operate in isolation, pointing out that any intention to incarcerate the NPP’s General Secretary, could spark “uncontrollable and inevitable violence”.
‘’… if you have eyes, you can see that the gentleman Sir John, irrespective of what the elite would say; in the NPP and at the grassroots level, he is very popular. He is a force. The elite can have their say but the grassroots would have their way”, he said.
In an interview with Okay FM, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie said the Supreme Court should tactfully stay focused on why the petitioners are in court without giving attention to side issues.
He claims that the society is expectant of the results and it would be prudent to guard the peace we are enjoying than to generate an “uncontrollable violence”.
He observes that it would be meaningless to create a situation where the court would invite people to suggest and snitch on others making contemptuous statements. He explains that this would develop into a tit for tat game and create enmity between political parties.
As chairman for AFAG, he called on the Chief Justice to intervene in the situation and direct the other justices to kindly tamper justice with mercy. “The time is now for the Chief Justice to use her discretional powers to resolve the issue”, he says.
“When the NDC was attacking the Chief Justice, we (AFAG) stood by her and when the Chairman for the NDC was attacking the judiciary claiming that there were several ways of killing a cat, we stood by them. And for us, we stand by the truth but at this point, we stand by peace”, he said.
