Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has defied attempts by a group of NPP protesters trying to prevent him from attending the inaugural ceremony of President John Mahama.

He has left his Airport West residence for the Independence Square, venue for the event despite the picketing there.

Joy News' George Wiafe, said a group numbering about 40 drawn largely from Kasoa in the Central Region which converged at Mr. Kufuor's residence protesting the former President's decision to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Mahama started dispersing when their efforts came to naught.

Hopeson Adorye, the Director of Operations of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group, Young Patriots, denied organising the group that tried to prevent former President Kufuor from attending the ceremony.

The Young Patriots had threatened to use every means to stop Mr. Kufuor from attending the ceremony - a threat the leaders of the group later withdrew after meeting with the former President.

Hopeson Adorye speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Monday said the Young Patriots did not engineer the action.

The agitation by the group “is not organized by the Young Patriots; grass root supporters of the party just decided to troop to the place to also convince him not to attend the inaugural ceremony,” he said.
