20 December 2012

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its members to disregard the allegations by the New Patriotic Party that it (NDC) rigged the December 7 polls and proceed with their planned victory celebrations.

details

According to some senior members of the NDC, they refrained from celebrating their victory at the polls due to the perceived tension after EC Chair Dr. Afari-Gyan declared the results of the December 7 polls.

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, George Lawson told Joynews that the party is surprised that the NPP is interpreting their silence to mean complicity in the supposed electoral fraud.

President Mahama of the NDC was declared winner of the December 7 polls having attained 50.70% of votes cast as against 47.74% of the NPP's Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NPP after the EC's declaration have refused to accept the results alleging that there were massive evidence of electoral fraud perpetuated to favor the ruling NDC.

They have since stated their intention of contesting the results of the polls at the Supreme Court.

But Mr. Lawson, their victory was a convincing one and they are not perturbed by the NPP's allegations of electoral fraud.

Mr. Lawson however cautioned party supporters to be moderate in their celebrations; and also ensure that their actions fall within the ambit of the law.
