Answering a question on how to use the country’s oil resources for the benefit of the people, Nana Akufo-Addo said his commitment to the free SHS policy was not about winning the December elections but about preparing the country’s next generation.

“Clearly the most equitable manner in which our nation and our people would benefit from the oil revenue is to ensure that they are used on the two most critical aspects of our national life – our education and our health care,” he said.

“If at the time the oil resources run out...,” Nana Akufo-Addo explained, “we have a transformed Ghanaian population – educated – which has access to good healthcare, we now have the basis to sustain the development of our nation; not for one year, not for two years but for generations to come.”
