President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians in the diaspora that he will accept the outcome of the December 7, 2012 election whether it favours him or not.

He said his decision to contest for the presidency was inspired by his desire to continue to work for the good people of Ghana, and that he was not bent on winning the election at all cost.

Therefore, he said, “I will respect the verdict of the people of Ghana in the December election. I am not one of the people who want to win the election at all cost.”

President Mahama was addressing Ghanaians in New York as part of his visit to the United States of America to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

President Mahama, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2012 election, said the decision as to who would become the President after the December 7, 2012 election rested with God and Ghanaians.

As a result, he said, he was committed to ensuring that the election was free, fair and transparent. Therefore, he said, he would not engage in any act that to disturb the peace in the country.

Touching on Ghana’s economic outlook, President Mahama said the country was performing very well. For instance, he said, Ghana was one of the six fastest growing economies in the world in 2011.

“God has been so good to Ghana. We have to be thankful to God. “If you listen to the radio in Ghana it is as if the nation was burning. But that is not the true state of affairs,” he said.

President Mahama underlined his commitment to build strong institutions in Ghana to propel the country’s socio-economic development.

Additionally, he said, the strong institutions would do away with bureacracy and reduce corruption in the public and private sectors.
