Buoyant Mills Declares “The Battle Has Already Been Won”

President John Evans Atta Mills says he believes strongly that despite the difficulties facing the party

today, the NDC will “come out as a united body that is inspired by the noble objectives of helping to raise the living standard of the people.”

The last to speak before the historic Sunyani congress went for its first break (30minutes), President Mills acknowledged that the NDC has had its fair share of challenges, “but with hard work and God’s blessing’s we are seeing green light at the end of the tunnel”.

“I believe that the end result will show that with hard work and cooperation there is nothing that we cannot achieve”.

“My brothers and sisters, this is really an important landmark and I want you to ensure that we live a legacy for the future and show the outside world, that whatever the difficulties, we can come out as a united body that is inspired by the noble objectives of helping to raise the living standards of our people. Let me emphasize that there is only one reason why we should seek for power, and that is to help raise the living standards of our people. We have had challenges, but with hard work and God’s blessing’s we are seeing green light at the end of the tunnel. We have started very important organisations and I want to assure you that you will give us the opportunity to continue the good worked that we have started on your behalf”.

Perhaps in an apparent response to Mr Rawlings’ accusations that his (Mills) administration has failed to arrest, prosecute and jail members of the erstwhile Kufuor administration, President Mills said “In 1992, we the people of this country adopted a constitution which is to guide our actions. We have also chosen the path of democracy. This path can be arduous, tedious, and bumpy and one is likely to be confronted with challenges. When it comes to justice, we have always said the wheels of justice grinds very slowly. It is our intention and we have demonstrated this in many ways that past Governments and our own government will at one day that have to account for our stewardship. There may be problems along the way, but I want to assure you that we have made and will continue to make the great efforts that are needed in order to ensure that there is justice in this country and that we are all held accountable”.

“I have always appealed that those in the position to help us to account for our stewardship must do so in the interest of our country‘s integrity”.

Thanking God for his travelling mercies and bountiful blessings bestowed on the party, and also the organisers for the excellent work done, President Mills urged NDC members to remember there are from one family and avoid any display of hostilities.

“Let us remember that we are all from one family. There should be no insults, no bickering, and there should be no display of hostilities. My brothers and sisters, the battle has already been won, God is our side.” he concluded.
