Akufo-Addo's Prayer

THE FLAGBEARER of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dunkwa Akufo-Addo, has emphasised that it has always been his prayer that God would help him to win the 2012 general elections to enable him to continue the good works of former President John Agyekum Kufour.

According to him, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had brought hardship on Ghanaians and only the NPP, which had Ghanaians at heart, could address it.

Nana Addo made the statement at Anomabo in the Mfantseman West District of the Central Region on Wednesday as part of his 10-day listening campaign tour to the region.

He expressed concern about the way the fishing industry was collapsing under the leadership of President John Atta Mills who claimed to be a fisherman, adding that the NPP had a lot of plans for the fishing communities. He therefore appealed to them to vote for him to accomplish those plans.

He indicated that the NPP established the Ministry of Fisheries to ensure that the problems of fishermen were channeled directly to the ministry to ensure effective redress.

Nana Addo disclosed that plans were underway for the party to set up a taskforce that would go round the fishing communities to gather information about the difficulties confronting the industry. He said this would enable the party to address the problems when it got the nod in the 2012 elections.

The flagbearer insisted that children in the country would enjoy free education to the Senior High School (SHS) level when elected president of Ghana.

“NPP has highly learned professionals who have sat down and analyzed the free educational system and I promise you that we will definitely do it when we come to power. America and other big countries have achieved a lot through the free educational system, wherever a rich person’s child can go, a poor man’s child can also go,” he stated.

The Paramount Chief of Anomabo Traditional Area, Kantamanto Amonoo XI, revealed that former President Kufour did a lot for the people of the area, charging supporters to put their differences behind and work hard to win the upcoming general elections.

Nana Addo later visited some fishermen at Anomabo beach where they pleaded with him to ensure free flow of premix fuel, when elected, to boost their activities,

The fishermen further appealed to Nana Addo to ensure the use of the light in fishing since its banning would cause a lot of harm in their lives.

Nana Addo earlier visited Mankessim, Saltpond, Abandze and Biriwa where he interacted with some market women and other people.

Thousands of supporters, amidst drumming and dancing, took to the street chanting victory songs to welcome their brave flagbearer.

Some of the party gurus who accompanied the NPP flagbearer included former District Chief Executives (DCEs), Members of Parliament (MPs), regional, constituencies and national executives.
