President Kufuor calls for the mentoring of a new kind of leadership in Africa that is properly equipped to deal with the problems of the continent.

He was speaking at an event to outdoor the Chief Executive Officer of the J. A. Kufuor Foundation, Prof. Baffuor Agyemang Duah.

“After being in front line politics for over four decades, which culminated in serving the last eight years as President of Ghana, I came to the final conclusion that the root cause of Africa’s under development was the lack of good leadership,” he said.

He said the continent has had many rulers but not leaders who would add to the development of the continent. President Kufuor is confident if Africa gets the leadership question right, development would follow.

Prof. Baffuor Agyemang Duah announced the foundation would seek to promote effective leadership, democratic governance and socio economic development in Ghana and Africa through advocacy, programmatic interventions and strategic partnerships.

The foundation would provide mentorship for African youth, some of whom would get scholarship to pursue their studies. He announced an elections monitoring unit would also be set up to support the conduct of good elections on the continent.

The foundation would also support agricultural production on the continent and join in the efforts to stem climate change and advance environmental sustainability.
