The service on Monday outdoored a newly formed Police Unit, with an assurance of strengthening security.

The police carried out a mock riot control exercise in Accra to show off their preparedness to deal with any eventualities.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Cephas Arthur in an interview with Citi News said the new unit would be crucial in dealing with any disturbances that may arise from the Supreme Court ruling.

According to DSP Arthur, the unit which used to be known as the Armoured Cars Squadron (ACS), has specially trained personnel who will manage the mass disorder, rescue abducted persons, provide security for the vulnerable, manage explosions among many others.

''The unit is ready to deal with rioting and situations of rowdiness,'' he added.

According to Citi News reporter, Amanda Agyei Kyem, who was at the scene, the newly inaugurated police unit was made up of four sub-units which were the Alpha unit, Bravo unit, Charley unit and the Delta unit

“They are well equipped with ICT/communication team, medical team, maintenance team and administration team to manage the mass destruction and hostage rescue, road blocks and also in preparation for the election petition verdict,“ she said.

According to DSP Freeman Tettey, who is the Greater Accra Police PRO, the police men and women have with them communication gadgets, body armour, pepper spray, tear gas and handcuffs to assist in any riots.
