According to Dr. Antwi-Danso, the current hike in tension makes it difficult for a person to tell whether Ghanaians would abide by the final decision of the highest court of the land.

In an interview with the press, the international watcher said, the international and diaspora communities were following with keen interest, the proceedings at the court which began with the submission of evidence in chief by petitioners, followed by the cross-examinations by the respondents.

He said Ghana had the responsibility of keeping the tout it had received from the international community as one of the stable democracies in Africa, therefore, the outcome of the court proceedings and its aftermath were of crucial essence to Ghana’s democracy and stability.

On whether the report of the international observers of the Election 2012 had any reason to justify the authenticity of the election results, Dr. Antwi-Danso retorted that election observers and for that international community could not solely determine the outcome of elections, citing several cases in Africa where elections were touted by international observers as free and fair, despite, obvious irregularities and malpractices that abounded.

He expressed the hope that the petition and proceedings in court would strengthen and entrench Ghana’s nascent democracy.

Similar calls have been made to Ghanaians to maintain peace after the verdict by the Supreme Court, since peace was a prerequisite for investment inflows and business partnership by foreign firms. Reports say quite a number of international businesses are still undecided as to establishing in Ghana due to the seemingly prolonged election petition hearing at the Supreme Court of Ghana.
