Johnson Asiedu-NketiahNana/Bawumia ticket will keep NPP in opposition- General Mosquito

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah says the re-nomination of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to partner Nana Akufo-Addo in the December polls adds nothing new to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral fortunes.

He said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket would rather send the NPP into perpetual opposition given the sterling performance of the Mills/Mahama government in just three years in office.

Dr. Bawumia was given a second chance as running mate to the NPP flag-bearer after the party’s National Council of Elders unanimously approved his candidature, Thursday.

His nomination has been welcomed by the party’s rank and file who have pledged their unflinching support for the ticket to enable the NPP recapture power from the NDC.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket is a team the NDC beat in 2008 therefore poses no threat to the ruling party.

He indicated that a repetition of the same ticket by the NPP without incumbency advantage would spell doom for the opposition party in their bid to return to power in 2012.

Drawing an analogy from football, General Mosquito said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket to face the Mills/Mahama ticket in December would be a return match with the NDC having the incumbency advantage.

The NDC Scribe added that the NDC has lived up to its promise of a Better Ghana and would be rewarded by Ghanaians with the retention of John Evans Atta Mills in power for a second term.

General Mosquito congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo for his consistency in maintaining Dr. Bawumia as running mate.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, Ghana's former Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro in the erstwhile Kufuor administration said the NDC would be laughing at the wrong side of their mouth if it underrates the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket.

He stated that the NPP is well poised and focused to unseat the NDC hence would not repeat the mistakes the party made in 2008.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe was convinced Ghanaians would show the NDC the exit for non-performance in government.

“They [NDC] have a problem so serious that even when they think about re-election I laugh. Any political pundit would tell u that there is no way the NDC can win election now in this country”.
