Akosua DentaaDentaa Nominated For Black List Award

Ghanaian showbiz icon Dentaa has been nominated for this year’s prestigious Black List Award, scheduled for United Kingdom on October 26.

The annual Black List Awards celebrates the contribution of the Black community across all levels of football. It focuses not only on the pitch, but also those who work tirelessly behind the scenes and the champions at grassroots level.

Also getting recognition for their work are those who work in the media as journalists, broadcasters and pundits. The inaugural event took place in 2008 and is the brainchild of BBC Sport journalist Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds, sports editor of The Voice newspaper. The Black List is seen as an indicator of how far the British African and Caribbean community has progressed.

Dentaa has been nominated for the award as a result of her contribution towards sport. Described as a new entry to The Black List, Dentaa is the personal manager of Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and also the founder of the highly-successful GUBA Awards.

She played an influential role in helping the Black Stars secure the services of Arsenal starlet, Emmanuel Frimpong.

A number of top black personalities across UK have made it on this year’s Black List nomination list. They include Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, BBC director and producer Jason, The Daily Mirror veteran reporter Darren Lewis, former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore, regular contributor to The Voice’s sports pages over the last five years Karyn Bascombe and Blackburn striker Jason Roberts. Awards will be given to categories such as media, commercial, administration, community and coaching/management. There will also be awards for off-the pitch, grassroots and the Keith Alexander Award.

This year’s awards presentation will be held at the offices of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games & Paralympic Games Limited (LOCOG) in Canary Wharf on October 26.

It is being supported by the Football Association, Professional Footballers’ Association, Kick It Out and the Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS), and Horizon with The Voice Newspaper as a media partner.
