Suspect arrested in Sweden over Otumfuo’s stolen crown jewels

A Swedish website, Aftonbladet is reporting that the police in that country have arrested man in connection of the stealing of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s crown jewels in Norway.

The report said “a suspected thief [has been] arrested at the airport.”

“He was taken when he was traveling from Sweden,” the story quoted Knut Joste in Sætnan of the Oslo police as saying.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, lost his crown jewels in the lobby of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in Oslo last Wednesday.

The hotel’s CCTV footage showed a man leaving the hotel with suit case suspected to contain the gold ornaments.

“He has admitted that he has been stealing jewels, the report quoted the Swedish police as saying.

Swedish police on Friday are expected to extradite the suspect to Norway for prosecution.

According to the website, the “Oslo police have sent out an international inquiries after two additional suspects, a man and a woman for the theft.”

The Norwegian Police told Joy News the suspect, who is of Mexican descent was arrested on Tuesday and has his identity unconfirmed since he has given numerous names.

An officer at the Norwegian Organised Crime Unit, Dummar Phoresin, said investigators were yet to find the missing jewels because the suspect is reluctant to disclose who he sold the crown jewels to.
