Dr Ato Eshun, a disease Control Officer at the Ghana Health Service attributed the deaths to late reportage of cases.

“We have a little over a 1000 cases and this number is a cumulative one… and all these deaths are brought in at the worst situations.”

He said people should report the cases early at the health centres for treatment to begin before the situation gets out of hand.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly is embarking on a fumigation exercise in a bid to curtail the spread in the metropolis. The exercise, which is in its first phase, will include Mamobi, Nima, Osu and other densely populated areas.

Meanwhile, new cases of the cholera disease have been recorded in the Eastern Region. Birim Central has so far recorded 49 cases, Suhum has 45 cases while Lower Manya has reported 7. Two suspected cases have been reported in Asuagyaman and Akwabi-birim district.

Dr Eramus Agongo, the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service told XYZNEWS, it is too early to determine the trend of the outbreak.

“The District Health administration is working with the district assembly to educate the public and also to look at the sources of possible pollution.”
